St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is preparing to open a new Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit this summer. The facility aims to enhance maternal care access for families in the Rockaway Peninsula, Five Towns, and nearby areas.
Donald T. Morrish, MD, MMM, Chief Executive Officer of Episcopal Health Services (EHS), stated: “For over a decade, we’ve been focused on enhancing and expanding access to women’s health services across the Rockaways.” He added that the new LDRP unit resulted from community feedback gathered through their Community Health Needs Assessment.
The unit is designed to improve the birthing experience by allowing mothers to stay in one room throughout their visit. Jacqueline Marecheau, MD, FACOG, EHS Chairperson of Obstetrics & Gynecology said: “This is more than just a new unit; it’s a reflection of how deeply we value the women and families who entrust us with their care.”
Karen Paige, MBA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS, CPXP, OCN and Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at EHS emphasized that: “This LDRP unit brings best-in-class person-centered care to the communities we serve.”
The LDRP unit will feature six private suites equipped for newborn care with family accommodations. It also includes advanced cesarean operating rooms along with recovery and triage rooms.
While construction continues on this project at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital’s Tower 7 has undergone renovations in its existing Labor and Delivery unit aimed at enhancing privacy for expectant mothers.
Episcopal Health Services Inc., located on New York’s Rockaway Peninsula provides comprehensive healthcare services regardless of patients’ ability to pay.
