The St. John’s women’s golf team won the team championship at the St. John’s Invitational on April 7, finishing ahead of Fairfield by eight strokes after two rounds at Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
This victory marks the team’s 27th championship under its head coach and their second consecutive title following last March’s win at the Northern Kentucky Spring Fling. The Red Storm outperformed a field of 12 teams to secure a home course win, with five of their seven golfers placing inside the top-15.
A sophomore from Chatsworth, California tied for individual medalist honors alongside Fairfield’s Katelynn Waclawski and Quinnipiac’s Natalie Spike, each shooting a total score of 12-over-par, 154 over two rounds.
One freshman competing as an individual carded an event-low round of 2-over-par, 73 in the final round to finish fifth overall with a season-best score of 15-over-par, 157. Another player matched that score for her first career top-five finish and has now recorded back-to-back top-10 placements after shooting a final-round score of five-over-par, 76.
Another Red Storm golfer placed inside the top-10 by tying for tenth place with a total score of sixteen-over-par, while another rounded out team scoring in sixteenth place overall after finishing nineteen-over-par through two rounds.
The St. John’s women’s golf team is scheduled to compete next at the Rutgers Invitational in Piscataway, New Jersey on April 10 and April 11.
