St. John’s University’s women’s basketball team is set to play Butler University in Indianapolis on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ from Hinkle Fieldhouse, with Kelsie Kasper and Alexis Ayala providing commentary.
In their last game, St. John’s (19-7 overall, 9-6 in the BIG EAST) lost a close match to DePaul, 72-68. The Red Storm overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to tie the score in the fourth quarter but could not secure the win at Wintrust Arena.
Beautiful Waheed led St. John’s with a career-high 20 points, her first time reaching that mark at the Division I level. She also contributed five rebounds and two blocks. Waheed is averaging 9.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game this season.
Brooke Moore added 17 points for St. John’s on efficient shooting—making seven of nine shots and both three-point attempts—while Sa’Mya Wyatt scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for her third straight double-digit scoring game. These three players combined for most of the team’s points against DePaul.
Jailah Donald had five assists in the contest, while Daniela Abies led with eight rebounds.
Wyatt was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season after averaging 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during a recent two-win week for St. John’s. Her performances included scoring 20 points against Seton Hall and contributing 14 against Xavier; she currently averages 11.1 points per game and has a field goal percentage of just over fifty-two percent.
Defensively, St. John’s ranks among the top teams in their conference: they are third in blocked shots within the BIG EAST and rank twenty-eighth nationally with an average of nearly five blocks per game.
