The St. John’s women’s basketball team is preparing to play its final road game of the regular season against Seton Hall on Sunday at 1 p.m. The matchup will take place at Walsh Gymnasium and be streamed on ESPN+ with Ryder Nuesell and Jackson Shank providing commentary.

In their previous game, St. John’s (20-9, 10-8 BIG EAST) lost a close contest to Georgetown, 62-60, during Senior Night. The Red Storm managed to overcome an early deficit and took a five-point lead late in the fourth quarter before Georgetown finished with a decisive run.

Brooke Moore led St. John’s in scoring against Georgetown with 15 points. Sa’Mya Wyatt contributed 13 points, and Beautiful Waheed added 10 points. Moore has been the team’s leading scorer in 13 games this season and reached double digits in scoring 18 times. She has surpassed the ten-point mark in 20 games this year and has achieved double figures in her career on 24 occasions. Moore leads the team while shooting 52.9% from the field and making 76.9% of her free throws.

Shaulana Wagner directed the offense by recording five assists against Georgetown, marking her 22nd game this season with at least three assists out of her 26 appearances. Wagner ranks second in the BIG EAST conference for assists per game at an average of 4.7, which also places her among the top players nationally.

Sa’Mya Wyatt was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a second consecutive week, bringing her total to three appearances this season on that list. Over a recent two-game stretch, she averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.

St. John’s will face Seton Hall (18-8, 12-5 BIG EAST) for the second time this season and for their ninety-third meeting overall on Sunday afternoon. The Red Storm have won more games historically between these teams with a record of 52-40 but have split their last four meetings with Seton Hall. Earlier this month, St. John’s defeated Seton Hall at home by a score of 67-61 behind Wyatt’s fourth game of scoring at least twenty points; Waheed and Moore also scored in double figures during that contest.

Seton Hall enters Sunday’s matchup having won three straight games including victories over Marquette (70-58), DePaul (96-74), and Xavier (64-55). Savannah Catalon leads Seton Hall statistically; she is first in free throw percentage within the conference at nearly eighty-nine percent—ranking eighteenth nationally—and averages almost three steals per game which is second-best in the conference.

Mariana Valenzuela contributes as well by ranking third in three-point shooting percentage within the BIG EAST at just under forty-two percent and stands fourth for rebounding with an average of seven-and-a-half boards per game.

Seton Hall collectively holds high marks within its conference: they are second for team free throw percentage (77%), lead all teams in made free throws per game (13.7), pace all others with an average of nearly thirty-eight rebounds per outing, and rank among national leaders for three-point shooting efficiency at just over thirty-three percent.

After playing Seton Hall, St. John’s will return home to host UConn—currently ranked number one—for its final regular-season match-up at Madison Square Garden on March first; it will be St John’s first standalone women’s college basketball event held there and will air nationally on TNT.
