The St. John’s track and field team will compete at the UConn Northeast Challenge, with events starting Friday and concluding Saturday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, according to an April 16 announcement from the university.

The meet comes after a strong performance by St. John’s at last weekend’s South Florida Invitational, where the team earned three individual event victories and ten top-10 finishes. The Red Storm’s 4×400-meter relay team also secured first place with a season-best time of 3 minutes, 36.22 seconds.

Senior Jamora Alves has been recognized for her consistent achievements this season, becoming the first St. John’s athlete since January 2020 to earn back-to-back athlete of the week honors in the BIG EAST conference. Alves recorded a winning throw of 52.03 meters (170 feet, 8 inches) in her latest competition—nearly six meters ahead of second place—a mark that currently leads the BIG EAST and ranks twenty-ninth in the NCAA East Region.

Other athletes expected to make an impact this weekend include senior Cassandra Lemus-Sodji in the short sprints (100-meter and 200-meter dashes) and sophomore Naiara Garcia-Moreno in middle-distance events (800-meter and 1,500-meter runs). Garcia-Moreno aims to improve on her season-best time of 4:25.38 in the 1,500 meters.

St. John’s will also participate in both relay events—the 4×100-meter and conference-leading 4×400-meter relays—looking to further improve their times before heading next week to compete at the historic Penn Relays beginning April 23.
