St. John’s University announced on May 1 that its track and field team will host the Tom Farrell Classic this Saturday, marking the team’s second home meet of the outdoor season. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with a Senior Day ceremony set for noon during the meet.

The ceremony will recognize sixteen senior athletes: Jamora Alves, Blessing Assoumany, Delicia Bent, Martina De Buglio, Nora Haugen, Linn Hertz Saebbo, Jalen Jackson, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji, Brenin Mahon, Chinenye Josephine Onourah, Desiree Pagan, Leilani Robinson, Ashley Sadler, Cristina Stanescu, Fia Viklund and Ezgi Yasar.

Earlier in the week, Jamora Alves was named BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her performances at the Penn Relays. This is her third time receiving this award during the current season and marks her sixth appearance on the weekly honor roll as a member of St. John’s track and field team.

Alves was also recognized as back-to-back field athlete of the week earlier in April. St. John’s has had an athlete appear in every weekly honor roll throughout April.

The Red Storm are represented across multiple events at this weekend’s meet. Nine athletes will compete in the 100-meter dash led by Cassandra Lemus-Sodji; Jalen Jackson holds St. John’s fastest time in the 200-meter dash; Leilani Robinson leads participants in the 800-meter run; while Ezgi Yasar, Brenin Mahon and Cristina Stanescu join Mia Sara Torres in running the 1,500 meters.

In field events Jamora Alves is scheduled to compete in shot put alongside Juliet Smith and Maja Henry. Jade Dockery will take part in long jump while Fia Viklund competes in triple jump; Ashley Sadler and Ruth Smith are set for high jump appearances.

Relay teams from St. John’s are expected to participate both in a single heat of the 4×100-meter relay as well as four teams entered into heats of the 4×400-meter relay.

Following Saturday’s competition at DaSilva Memorial Field on campus grounds (location inferred from regular venue use), St. John’s track and field program will prepare for participation at this year’s BIG EAST Outdoor Championship scheduled from May 14-16.
