The St. John’s softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Creighton on April 18 at Red Storm Field, with scores of 11-6 and 13-6.
The games were significant for the Red Storm, who are now 27-19 overall and hold a conference record of 6-12 in the Big East. The team scored a total of 12 runs on 20 hits across both games, showing strong offensive efforts despite the losses.
In game one, St. John’s honored Derek “DJ” Southerland, a former manager and supporter of the program. Students attending received complimentary headphones as part of the tribute. The Red Storm started strong with five runs in the first inning, including contributions from Cassidy Stouffer and Alyssa Platero. However, Creighton responded with a solo home run in the second inning and took control by scoring five more runs in the third to lead 6-5. Despite tying the game later, St. John’s could not recover after Creighton’s grand slam in the fifth inning.
Game two saw Creighton take an early lead with four runs in the first inning and three more in the second for a quick advantage. Although St. John’s rallied late with four runs in their final at-bat—including RBIs from Bianco, Natasha Limbani, and Stouffer—the comeback fell short as Creighton secured another win.
Key performances included four RBIs from Stouffer over both games and multi-hit efforts from London Slade and Makenna Meadows.
Looking ahead, St. John’s will play again on Tuesday, April 21 against local rival Stony Brook at 2 p.m., with coverage available on Flo College.
