St. John’s women’s tennis sweeps Rider University in home match

The St. John’s women’s tennis team achieved a 7-0 win over Rider on Friday at the USTA National Tennis Center, bringing their season record to 3-2.

St. John’s started strong by winning all three doubles matches. Captain Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman defeated Dani Naves and Jolie Kaiser 6-2 on the No. 1 court, marking their third victory as a pair this season. Victoria Papadopoulou and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Lisa Dierick and Kashish Kant on the No. 2 court. Charlotta Buss and Nao Kojima also won their match, ensuring a sweep in doubles play.

In singles competition, Charlotta Buss led with a straight-sets victory (6-0, 6-2) against Elle Catanzarite on the No. 5 court. Abi Redman followed with another straight-set win (6-0, 6-2) over Anna Bong at No. 4 singles.

Nao Kojima clinched the overall match for St. John’s with a 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 2 court, improving her spring record to 3-2. Singles victories were also recorded by Gomez, Sartz-Lunde, and Papadopoulou; together they dropped only one set across their matches.

St. John’s will next host Monmouth at the USTA National Tennis Center, with first serve scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
