St. John’s women’s tennis defeats Providence for second BIG EAST win

St. John’s women’s tennis team achieved a 6-1 win over Providence on Saturday at the Providence Tennis Center. With this victory, St. John’s moves to an overall record of 8-3 and remains undefeated in BIG EAST conference play at 2-0. Providence now stands at 1-5 for the season and 0-2 in the conference.

The Red Storm started strong by winning the doubles point. Charlotta Buss and Giulia Bizzari won their match against Gabrielle Plonowski and Lauren Krise on court three, while Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Allison Root and Flora Eidson.

In singles competition, Abi Redman notched her second win of the day with a straight-set victory over Erika Beltran, 6-0, 6-0. Alicia Gomez followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Lauren Krise on court six, extending St. John’s lead to three points.

Victoria Papadopoulou clinched the match for St. John’s after defeating Allison Root, 6-2, 6-0, on court one.

Providence earned its only point through retirement on court two. However, St. John’s added further wins as Charlotta Buss and Nao Kojima claimed victories in their singles matches to close out the contest at 6-1.

St. John’s next match is scheduled for March 3 against Stetson at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Florida. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
