St. John’s women’s tennis defeats Hofstra for eighth straight time

St. John’s University’s women’s tennis team achieved a 4-0 victory over Hofstra at the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday. The win improved the Red Storm’s season record to 5-2.

The doubles matches set the pace for St. John’s, with Alicia Gomez and Abi Redman defeating Aida Oviedo and Aryanah Kahnamoui 6-1 on the top court, marking their fifth consecutive win as a pair this season. Victoria Papadopoulou and Nicoline Sartz-Lunde secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win against Isabella Cardinal and Sabira Mohamed.

In singles play, Redman continued her strong performance by winning against Bohdana Bilokan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, on court four. Charlotta Buss followed with a victory over Ava Veneziano, 6-3, 6-1. Team captain Gomez clinched the overall match for St. John’s by defeating Cardinal 6-2, 6-4 on court six.

This result marks the eighth consecutive win for St. John’s over Hofstra since February 2017.

Head coach Lauren Leo’s team will next face Yale at the Cary Leeds Center in The Bronx on Saturday, with play scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m.
