St. John’s sends 20 fencers to NCAA Northeast Regional at Vassar

St. John’s University will send 20 fencers to the NCAA Northeast Regional competition, which takes place at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York on Sunday. The event is an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Championships, scheduled from March 19 to 22 at Notre Dame.

The Red Storm’s roster includes 12 men and eight women who will compete across saber, epee, and foil disciplines. Last year, St. John’s achieved top-10 finishes in every weapon category at the regional tournament. Notable performances included Vlad Covaliu securing first place in men’s saber, with teammates Adham Moataz and Darii Lukasehnko finishing third and fifth respectively. Daniil Mazur won men’s epee while Samuel Imrek took third place. In men’s foil, Jan Nowak finished seventh and Igor Wozniak placed tenth.

For the women’s team last season, Catinca Dumitru was sixth in saber; Antonina Lachman finished seventh in foil; and Nicole Feygin earned a tenth-place result in epee.

This year’s participants are as follows:

Men’s Saber: Darii Lukashenko, Adham Moataz, Justin Cotterell-Roberts, Vlad Covaliu
Men’s Epee: Samuel Imrek, Adam Horváth, Daniil Mazur, Lars Ponikvar
Men’s Foil: Jan Nowak, Igor Wozniak, Bronislav Petrov, Sebastian Garcia
Women’s Saber: Chloe Butman, Salome Berger, Catinca Dumitru
Women’s Epee: Anastasiia Kudierova, Elisa Treglia, Nicole Feygin
Women’s Foil: Malwina Kolodziejczyk, Antonina Lachman
