The St. John’s men’s basketball team secured a 90-73 win over Creighton at the CHI Health Center Omaha, marking the team’s largest margin of victory against the Bluejays in Omaha. This result completed a sweep of their Midwest road trip.
After trailing by five points midway through the first half, St. John’s responded with a 22-4 scoring run and maintained control for the rest of the game. The team shot 50.8 percent from the field and 52.2 percent from three-point range.
Six players from St. John’s reached double figures in scoring for only the second time this season. Lefteris Liotopoulos led all scorers with a career-high 17 points, including five three-pointers, tying the most by a Red Storm player this season. Oziyah Sellers contributed 16 points and matched his career-high with five assists.
Zuby Ejiofor, Ian Jackson, and Bryce Hopkins each added 12 points. Ejiofor also led all players with six assists and recorded four steals, leading St. John’s in several statistical categories this season.
Dylan Darling rounded out the group of double-digit scorers with 11 points on efficient shooting.
St. John’s made 12 three-pointers, their second highest total this season, and shot over 50 percent from beyond the arc for the second time in four games. In conference play, they have converted on 41.1 percent of their three-point attempts.
The Red Storm outrebounded Creighton by a margin of 39-26 and collected more offensive rebounds (12-2). The team also limited its turnovers to just six for the second consecutive game.
With this win, St. John’s extended its Big East road winning streak to six games, which is now the fourth longest in program history and their longest such streak since 1998. The victory was only their second ever at Creighton’s home arena after losing six straight there.
The game began with an early lead for St. John’s before Creighton responded to go ahead briefly. Key plays included Ruben Prey’s block that set up a Sellers three-pointer to reclaim momentum for St. John’s during a critical stretch in the first half.
St. John’s closed out the first half on a strong note, outscoring Creighton 34-11 over nearly ten minutes while shooting efficiently both overall and from long range.
In the second half, St. John’s continued its effective shooting as Jackson and Hopkins hit early threes to extend their lead further.
Liotopoulos scored eight points in under two minutes late in the game to surpass his previous personal bests and push St. John’s lead to its largest point at 82-56.
Following two Quad 1 road wins in the Midwest, St. John’s will return home to Madison Square Garden to host Marquette next Tuesday evening.
