The St. John’s men’s tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 win over Cleveland State on Friday night at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. This result moves the Red Storm to a 7-1 record for the season and marks their fourth consecutive victory.
In doubles play, Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy, who were recently named BIG EAST Doubles Team of the Week, won 6-2 against Cole Chappell and Nico Jamison on court three. After Cleveland State took the top doubles match, Danilo Raicevic and Radomir Tomic clinched the doubles point for St. John’s with a 6-3 win over Tristan Stine and Maxime Aremon on court two.
Cleveland State tied the match by winning at No. 6 singles to start singles competition. Taichi Wakamatsu then gave St. John’s a lead again with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Aremon at No. 4 singles. Agynskyy followed with a straight sets victory over Jamison at No. 3 singles, pushing the score to 3-1 in favor of St. John’s.
Radomir Tomic sealed the overall team win for St. John’s by defeating Lincoln Battle in straight sets (7-6, 6-4) on court one. Cleveland State won the final two matches on courts two and five to make it a close finish at 4-3.
St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Tennis is part of NCAA Division I athletics within the Big East Conference and represents St. John’s University in intercollegiate tennis competitions according to its official website.
The Red Storm will next host Butler in another BIG EAST matchup at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion on Saturday, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
