For the first time in 20 years, St. John’s University men’s basketball games will return to ESPN New York radio stations. Starting with the upcoming game against Alabama, all of the remaining 30 regular season games for the Red Storm will be broadcast on either ESPN New York 880 AM, ESPN New York 1050 AM, or through the ESPN New York app. Of those games, at least 26 will air on terrestrial radio (either 880 AM or 1050 AM), while all games can be accessed via the app available on both the App Store and Google Play. Broadcasts from LEARFIELD Red Storm Sports Network will also continue to be available on platforms such as Varsity Network app, TuneIn, and SiriusXM.
This marks St. John’s first season on traditional radio since 2020-21 and its first regular appearance on ESPN Radio since the 2006-07 season.
“It’s difficult to put into words how excited I am to have the Red Storm back on the air in the media capital of the world,” said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull. “One of the most common refrains I’ve heard from our fans over the past year is that they want us back on radio. To have the Johnnies share the airwaves with some of New York’s top professional teams is a testament to our place in the city’s sports landscape and the passion of our fanbase.”
John Minko, a well-known broadcaster in New York, returns for his eighteenth season anchoring St. John’s radio coverage. He will work alongside several analysts including Brandon Tierney, Vin Parise, Tarik Turner, and Brian Mahoney.
