St. John’s men’s basketball team, ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll, is set to face Marquette on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast nationally on TNT from Fiserv Forum, with Brian Anderson and Robbie Hummel providing commentary and Andy Katz as sideline reporter.

Radio coverage will be available through the LEARFIELD St. John’s Radio Network, featuring John Minko and Vin Parise on 880 AM ESPN New York, as well as several streaming platforms.

The Red Storm (20-5 overall, 13-1 in BIG EAST play) enters the matchup with an 11-game winning streak that began on January 6. This run is tied for the fourth-longest active streak in NCAA Division I basketball. The team’s current performance marks its second-best start in BIG EAST history, following only the 1984-85 squad’s 14 consecutive conference wins. The ongoing unbeaten stretch is also St. John’s longest since opening the 2018-19 season with a dozen victories.

On Saturday, St. John’s set a new program record by securing its tenth straight BIG EAST road win against Providence, winning 79-69. This road success dates back to February 19, 2025, and is the longest such streak by a BIG EAST team since Villanova achieved thirteen consecutive road wins between January 2015 and February 2016. The Red Storm has started this season with seven straight away victories for the first time since the 1929-30 campaign.

Over their undefeated period of more than six weeks, St. John’s improved its standing in several rankings: No. 21 in KenPom and No. 24 in NET rankings as of February 15 games played. Under head coach Rick Pitino, the team holds a record of three wins and four losses in Quad 1 games while remaining unbeaten (7-0) in Quad 2 matchups during this stretch.

Dylan Darling led St. John’s recent win over Providence by scoring eighteen of his season-high twenty-three points in the second half and collecting eight rebounds—a personal best for this season. Darling was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and received Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week honors after averaging nineteen-and-a-half points, six-and-a-half rebounds, two assists, and two steals per game last week.

Senior forward Zuby Ejiofor has scored double figures in fourteen consecutive games and leads the conference in free throws made (140) and attempted (200). He ranks among the top ten players in scoring (16.2 PPG), rebounding (7.4 RPG), assists (3.5 APG), and blocks (1.9 BPG) within the BIG EAST Conference—making him unique nationally for his averages across these categories.

During their winning streak, St. John’s has averaged just over eight turnovers per game while maintaining a turnover margin of +5.2 over eleven contests; their season-long margin stands at +3.2—21st best nationally.

In their previous meeting this season on January 13 at Madison Square Garden, St. John’s defeated Marquette by a score of ninety-two to sixty-eight behind Oziyah Sellers’ twenty-four points and Ejiofor’s twenty-two points on efficient shooting.

St. John’s has won four straight games against Marquette—their longest run ever against them—though Marquette leads the all-time series twenty-nine to twenty.

Marquette will recognize “Al’s Night” during Wednesday’s contest to honor Al McGuire—a former St. John’s player who later coached Marquette to a national championship in nineteen seventy-seven.

Marquette enters with a record of nine wins and seventeen losses overall (four-eleven BIG EAST) after falling to Xavier last Saturday but has won four of its last five home conference games at Fiserv Forum.

Freshman Nigel James Jr., from Long Island, is one of three freshmen nationwide averaging at least nineteen points, five assists, and three rebounds per conference game; he has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week three times this year.

After Wednesday’s game at Marquette, St John’s will return home to Queens—where they play their home games—to face Creighton at Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon (official website). The Red Storm participates in the Big East Conference under its athletics nickname “Red Storm” (official website), having previously claimed six Big East Tournament championships and two NIT titles (official website).
