The St. John’s men’s tennis team won the BIG EAST Championship on Apr. 19, defeating DePaul 4-1 in Cayce, South Carolina. The Red Storm claimed their seventh conference title in the past twelve seasons and ninth overall, the most in league history.
This victory is significant for St. John’s as it marks their first consecutive championship wins since DePaul achieved back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. The team now awaits its placement in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Semen Agynskyy was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after recording three singles victories and contributing to two doubles wins during the event. Head Coach Dillon Pottish earned his fourth BIG EAST championship leading St. John’s.
The Red Storm secured an early lead by winning the doubles point, with Adam Groves and Agynskyy posting a 6-1 win on court three, followed by Danilo Raicevic and Radomir Tomic clinching a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. In singles play, Agynskyy extended the lead with a straight-set win over Pablo Torres Almeida, while Tomic added another point before Venedikt Tsirikidze sealed the championship by rallying to defeat Andy Hadziabdic.
St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Tennis competes in NCAA Division I athletics within the Big East Conference according to the official website.
