The St. John’s Red Storm men’s golf team concluded its regular season on Apr. 19 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, which was hosted by Penn State in University Park, Pennsylvania.
This event marked the end of the team’s schedule before postseason play and provided a final opportunity for players to compete ahead of upcoming championships. The Red Storm finished with a combined score of 21-over-par, 873, across three rounds at the Penn State University Golf Club-Blue Course.
The team opened strong with a first-round score of 1-over-par, 285, but followed with a second round of 16-over-par, 300 on Saturday. In Sunday’s final round, St. John’s recorded a team score of 4-over-par, 288. David Mlynek led St. John’s with a tie for 23rd place after shooting a total score of three-over-par, including seven birdies throughout the tournament and finishing his last round at one-under-par.
Other notable performances included Joseph Dolezal finishing in 32nd place with an overall five-over-par and Eli Weidmann ending just behind him at six-over-par after carding the team’s best single-round score—a three-under-par opening round.
Penn State won its home tournament for the seventh time in eight appearances by posting nine-under-par as a team and winning by eleven strokes over their closest competitors. Andres Barraza from Penn State claimed individual honors after shooting five-under across three rounds.
