St. John’s men’s golf sits third after first day at Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic

St. John’s men’s golf team finished the opening day of the Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic in third place among 15 teams at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans. The Red Storm, competing in NCAA Division I as part of the BIG EAST Conference and associated with St. John’s University in Queens, New York, recorded a two-round total of 46-over-par 622 after two consecutive rounds of 23-over-par 311.

Four players from St. John’s are ranked within the top-30 out of an 80-player field, with the team achieving a 4.38 stroke average on par-4 holes, ranking second among all teams participating.

Freshman Max McColgan led the team with an 8-over-par score of 152 for the day, placing him fourth individually and just two shots behind the tournament leader. McColgan posted scores of five-over-par (77) and three-over-par (75) across his rounds.

Joseph Dolezal and Matthew DiFiore both finished tied for 16th place after each carded a total score of 12-over-par (156). DiFiore made one of only three eagles recorded by any player during Monday’s play, scoring it on the par-5 second hole.

Eli Weidmann placed 28th overall with a combined score of 14-over-par (158), highlighted by his first-round score of three-over-par (75).

The final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday morning at English Turn Golf and Country Club. Live results will be available on SCOREBOARD.
