St. John’s baseball team lost to Stony Brook, 7-4, in a midweek game at Jack Kaiser Stadium on May 5. The defeat ended the Red Storm’s six-game midweek win streak and came during a day when the program honored eight graduating players.
The result is significant as it marks the first time since March that St. John’s has lost a midweek contest, showing a shift in momentum for the team as they approach the end of their season.
Jon LeGrande led the offense for St. John’s on his Senior Day, going 3-for-4 with a leadoff solo home run and adding two more hits and an RBI. Sean Britt contributed by going 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored, while Shaun McMillan and Jayder Raifstanger each recorded two hits in four at-bats.
Joe Mascio made his second start of the season for St. John’s, while Kyle Chase pitched three innings in relief allowing one run. Tommy Conley threw one scoreless inning before Brady Clark, Nick Gilpin, Carter Wall, and Nick Romer also appeared out of the bullpen.
Stony Brook took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and maintained pressure throughout the game. The Red Storm responded quickly with LeGrande’s home run but could not overcome additional runs by Stony Brook later in the game despite late efforts to rally.
Looking ahead, St. John’s will finish its regular season with six straight conference games in BIG EAST play starting with a three-game series at Villanova.
