Springfield College defeats NYU men’s volleyball in five-set match

The New York University men’s volleyball team, ranked sixth nationally, was defeated by top-ranked Springfield College in a closely contested match on Saturday at the John A. Paulson Center.

NYU started strong by winning the first set 25-23. Springfield responded by taking the second set 31-29 after both teams exchanged leads multiple times and tied the score on 20 occasions. NYU regained momentum in the third set, overcoming an early deficit to win 25-22. However, Springfield took control in the fourth set with a 25-18 victory and narrowly won the deciding fifth set 16-14.

During the match, Emerson Evans contributed significantly for NYU, including scoring four quick points at the start of the second set and recording back-to-back aces and a kill to help tie up the third set. Charlie Clifford also played a key role with important kills and an ace that helped secure NYU’s win in the third set.

Both Clifford and Evans finished with 20 kills each. Devyn Nguyen led with 47 assists, while Evans had a team-high four blocks and Cade Miller added three blocks.

NYU will next face New Jersey City University on Thursday, February 26, at 7:00 pm in Jersey City, NJ.
