Speaker Carl Heastie visited Rockland County as part of his annual statewide tour, accompanied by Assemblymember Aron Wieder. The visit included stops at the Community Outreach Center and the Martin Luther King Center, as well as meetings with local religious leaders from Kaiser Village and New Square.
“I want to thank Assemblymember Wieder for inviting me today to see the incredible community in Rockland County,” said Speaker Heastie. “The Community Outreach Center and the Martin Luther King Center continue to provide critical services to the community, from supporting applications to social services to expanding access for after-school care and providing our seniors with social programs and meal services. These services are vital to the fabric of communities across the state and I was honored to meet with these groups today.”
“My community excels in taking care of one another and I was honored to show Speaker Heastie around our neighborhoods and introduce him to the individuals working to make our community better,” said Assemblymember Wieder. “By touring the Community Outreach Center, the Martin Luther King Center and meeting with rabbis from Kaiser Village and New Square, Speaker Heastie was able to see Rockland County’s focus on ensuring all members of our community have the resources available to grow and thrive.”
During their visit, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder met with Rabbi Hersh Horowitz, executive director of the Community Outreach Center. The center helps families obtain social services and employment support while also offering programs for seniors.
They also visited the Martin Luther King Center with Director Nathan Mungin. The center has a long history of serving local families through after-school care, youth job opportunities, food pantry access, and nutrition support for seniors. Speaker Heastie announced $1,050,000 in capital funding for improvements at the center—including upgrades such as a new field, air-conditioning units, and roof repairs—as well as $250,000 in annual operating funds.
Additionally, Speaker Heastie joined Mayor Allie Pinkasovits of Kaiser Village during a meeting with that village’s rabbi. Later he met Mayor Izzy Spitzer of New Square while visiting its rabbi.
