Speaker Carl Heastie visited Woodlawn Park in Schenectady as part of his annual statewide tour, accompanied by Assemblymember Phil Steck. During the visit, they announced $500,000 in funding to renovate and update the park’s community building and amenities.
“I want to thank Assemblymember Steck for inviting me to visit Woodlawn Park today and to see his continued effort to ensure all families have the opportunity to experience an incredible outdoor space,” said Speaker Heastie. “All families across our great state should have easy access to green spaces and we must continue to support their continued growth and upkeep.”
Assemblymember Steck added, “I was honored Speaker Heastie could join me today to visit Woodlawn Park and see how much hard work we’ve put into ensuring this park is accessible and enjoyable for all our families. This investment in our community building will be critical to our community’s ability to hold events or meetings that brings us all closer together and provides a critical benefit to our neighborhood’s fabric.”
The event included a tour of Woodlawn Park with Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy and City Councilmember Carmel Patrick. The park features playgrounds suitable for various age groups as well as a splashpad. The newly announced funding aims to improve the community building, enabling residents more opportunities for gatherings and events.
