YU’s new anthem, “I am YU,” has quickly gained popularity on YouTube. The song, performed by Simcha Leiner, was introduced during YU’s 2025 Commencement and has accumulated over 1,000 views. The lyrics reflect President Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman’s vision of the university as a center for moral clarity and Torah values.
Filmed at YU’s Wilf and Beren campuses from January to May, the video features enthusiastic participation from students and faculty. Leiner commented on the involvement of students: “Getting the students involved was both fun and essential.” Since its release, Leiner has been invited to perform the anthem at weddings.
Leiner’s connection with Yeshiva University dates back to his youth when he studied with chazzan Sherwood Goffin A’’H at the Belz School on campus. This relationship led him to serve as chazzan at Ohr Torah in West Orange, New Jersey. He also participated in various events at YU, including performing at the 2024 Hanukkah Dinner.
The anthem is another success for Leiner, known for his sold-out performances worldwide since his debut in 2008 with “Kol Berama.” He has produced seven albums with singles that have garnered millions of views online.
