Seven New York City FC players called up for international duty in March

Seven players from New York City FC have been called up for international duty during the upcoming FIFA window, according to a March 27 announcement by the club.

The call-ups include both senior and youth national team selections, reflecting the team’s presence on the global stage as preparations continue for this summer’s World Cup.

Goalkeeper Matt Freese will join the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) as they prepare with two friendlies in Atlanta, Georgia. The USMNT is scheduled to play Belgium on March 28 and Portugal three days later. Midfielder Aiden O’Neill and defender Kai Trewin have been named to Australia’s squad, which will host Cameroon in Sydney on March 27 and Curaçao in Melbourne on March 31.

At the youth level, Drew Baiera and Jonny Shore have been selected for the U.S. Under-19 Men’s National Team training camp in Alicante, Spain. Their matches include games against Wales on March 28 and Elche B on March 30. Máximo Carrizo will represent the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team at the Lisbon International Tournament in Portugal with matches against Iceland (March 26), Morocco (March 28), and host nation Portugal (March 31). Peter Molinari has also received a call-up to join the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team for an international training camp in Asunción, Paraguay; they are set to face Paraguay on March 28.

The club congratulated all seven players selected for their respective national teams and wished them well during their time away from New York City FC.

These call-ups demonstrate New York City FC’s ongoing contribution of talent at both senior and youth levels internationally.
