New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu has been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from July 22 to July 27, according to an announcement by the league. This is Ionescu’s second weekly award in the 2025 season and the tenth of her career.
Ionescu is the first player in the league this season to earn consecutive Player of the Week honors. She previously received recognition for her performance in Week 7, prior to the All-Star break.
In Week 8, Ionescu helped lead New York Liberty through three home games at Barclays Center, where the team achieved a 2–1 record. Over those games, she averaged 24 points, 7.7 assists, six rebounds, 1.7 steals, and one block per game. She led all players in the Eastern Conference in assists and was among the top three scorers for that week. For players who averaged at least 30 minutes on court, Ionescu posted a conference-best offensive rating of 110.7.
She also recorded notable stats as a guard with 28 points scored in the paint during that week—14 of which came against Los Angeles and matched her season high. Her average of 9.3 points in the paint ranked third overall in the conference when including frontcourt players.
The Liberty have now received three Player of the Week honors this season, more than any other team so far in 2025. The franchise has earned this recognition a total of 63 times in its history.
