Ritchie Torres, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 15th district, recently expressed concerns through a series of tweets regarding the risks faced by immigrant families and public health issues in his constituency. Torres has served in Congress since 2021, taking over from José E. Serrano.

On July 7, 2025, Torres tweeted about the potential risks posed to families by certain immigration policies. He stated, “This move will put countless families at risk, including many members of the Garifuna community in the Bronx who came fleeing persecution and environmental devastation.” He emphasized the need for collective action against what he described as “unjust deportation at the hands of Donald Trump.”

The same day, Torres reiterated his message in Spanish to reach a broader audience within his community. He tweeted, “Esta medida pondrá en riesgo a innumerables familias, incluyendo a muchos miembros de la comunidad garífuna en el Bronx que llegaron huyendo de la persecución y la devastación ambiental.” He called for unity and resistance against deportations.

Two days later, on July 9, 2025, Torres addressed ongoing public health and safety issues in another tweet. He remarked that despite efforts and multi-agency operations to address these concerns in the South Bronx’s Hub area, progress was lacking. “Despite my repeated pleas and multiple announcements of multi-agency operations—often launched with great fanfare—the City is no closer to solving the public health and safety crisis that has taken hold of the South Bronx’s Hub,” he wrote.

Torres continues to advocate for solutions to these pressing issues affecting his constituents in The Bronx.
