Ritchie Torres, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 15th district, shared his views and experiences on social media. Torres, who succeeded José E. Serrano in 2021, has been active in addressing community and national issues through various platforms.
On June 18, 2025, Torres expressed his enthusiasm for visiting South Bronx United, an organization that uses soccer to empower youth both academically and professionally. He noted the organization’s initiatives like college preparation and workforce training at the Clubhouse Café as significant contributors to building a stronger Bronx community.
Later that day, he drew a historical comparison by stating “Lyndon Johnson deployed the National Guard to defend civil rights. Donald Trump is using the National Guard to violate them.” This comment highlights his stance on current political actions concerning civil rights.
