Rep. Ritchie Torres, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 15th district, has expressed his strong opposition to a legislative proposal known as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Through a series of tweets, he has highlighted his concerns about the potential impact of this bill on constituents and communities.
On July 2, 2025, Torres tweeted about his discussion with Rep. Burchett regarding the bill’s consequences: “Last night, I laid out the stakes for Rep. Burchett: 30,000 people in his district would lose healthcare, 15,000 would lose food assistance under the Big Beautiful Bill.” Despite being informed of these impacts, Torres noted that Burchett still plans to support the bill.
The following day, on July 3, 2025, Torres criticized the bill further by stating: “The so-called Big Beautiful Bill is an American nightmare pretending to be an American dream.” He emphasized that its portrayal as beneficial is misleading.
Later that same day, Torres reiterated his disapproval by describing it as detrimental to working individuals: “The so-called Big Beautiful Bill is the ugliest attack on the working people of the Bronx, New York, and America.”
Ritchie Torres was born in The Bronx in 1988 and continues to reside there. He succeeded José E. Serrano in Congress in 2021 and has been actively representing New York’s 15th District since then.
