Rep. Ritchie Torres, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 15th district since 2021, addressed a range of national security and public safety issues in a series of posts on January 8, 2026.

In his first statement, Torres announced new legislative efforts regarding congressional authority over military action. On January 8, he wrote, “I am introducing legislation to make clear that an indictment is no substitute for an AUMF or a declaration of war. Indicting a foreign leader does not turn a military strike into law enforcement or erase Congress’s constitutional authority over the use of force.”

Later that day, Torres commented on state-level initiatives against untraceable firearms. At 15:58 UTC, he posted, “I’ve repeatedly raised the alarm about 3D-printed ghost guns, and I commend @GovKathyHochul’s leadership in taking bold action. New York is setting the national standard for public safety.”

In another post made at 21:07 UTC on the same day, Torres criticized proposals to seize Greenland from a NATO ally: “Threatening to seize Greenland from a NATO ally is reckless, unlawful, and dangerous. You do not strengthen America by blowing up the strongest alliance in modern history.”

Torres has represented New York’s 15th District in Congress since replacing José E. Serrano in 2021 and resides in The Bronx where he was born in 1988.
