Rep. Ritchie Torres, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 15th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on April 1, 2026, addressing issues ranging from transgender rights and birthright citizenship to environmental progress in the Bronx.
In recognition of Trans Day of Visibility, Torres stated: “On this Trans Day of Visibility, we stand with our TGNC neighbors and recommit to the fight for their dignity, safety, and right to live openly and without fear.” (April 1, 2026).
Later that day, he commented on Supreme Court proceedings regarding birthright citizenship: “Oral arguments are underway at the Supreme Court in a case that could strip citizenship from children born on American soil. The Constitution is unequivocal. The 14th Amendment guarantees birthright citizenship, and the Supreme Court has affirmed it for more than a century.” (April 1, 2026).
Torres also highlighted environmental initiatives in his district: “I was proud to join the @MTA and @NYC_DOT today in Hunts Point to announce real progress on cleaner air for the Bronx. Hunts Point is one of the largest food distribution hubs in the country, but it has also been a major source of pollution for the surrounding communities.” (April 1, 2026).
Torres was born in The Bronx in 1988 and continues to reside there as he serves his congressional term. He succeeded José E. Serrano in representing New York’s 15th district.
