Rep. Nydia Velázquez, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district, has recently shared her perspectives and initiatives on social media. Her posts on June 6, 2025, highlight both legislative actions and community concerns.

On June 6, Velázquez outlined a bill requiring the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) to coordinate outreach efforts within 90 days. The bill also mandates these organizations to share guidance in multiple languages including English and Spanish, host webinars and town halls, protect small businesses from scams, and report monthly to Congress on compliance.

Later that day, Velázquez expressed her dismay over immigration enforcement practices in another post. She described as “heartbreaking” the situation of a student taken into ICE custody while trying to finish the school year. She criticized the practice of detaining students at courthouses and joined community calls for the student’s release.

In a subsequent tweet, Velázquez extended well-wishes to those celebrating Eid al-Adha in her district NY-07.

Nydia Velázquez was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953 and resides in Brooklyn. She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras with a BA in 1974.
