Rep. Nydia Velázquez, a longstanding U.S. Congress member representing New York’s 7th District, shared recent developments through her Twitter account. Velázquez, who has held her congressional seat since 1993, continues to focus on housing and community initiatives.

On May 2, 2025, Velázquez announced her introduction of an amendment aimed at safeguarding climate investments within affordable housing. This amendment includes a significant allocation: “$90B to eliminate the public housing repair backlog”. In her tweet, she emphasized the dire conditions faced by families in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and nationwide, urging Congressional action.

In another post dated May 3, 2025, Velázquez expressed her appreciation for her time spent with the community at P.S. 97 in Woodhaven. She remarked on the success of the Community Resource Fair organized that morning, extending thanks to “Principal Aggoub and the team” for hosting the event, which was instrumental in linking families with needed services.

Later the same day, Velázquez celebrated a milestone for Cypress Hills with the inauguration of the Fulton Street Business Improvement District (BID). She described the event as “a big win for Cypress Hills”. The establishment of the BID was a collaborative effort involving Council Member Sandy Nurse, local businesses, and community leaders, demonstrating a commitment to neighborhood investments.

Nydia Velázquez’s active engagement in both legislative and local community matters highlights her ongoing dedication to her constituents. With her roots in Puerto Rico and academic credentials from the University of Puerto Rico, she has been a significant political figure since she succeeded Stephen Solarz in Congress in 1993.
