Rep. Nydia Velazquez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district, has recently voiced her opinions on various national issues through a series of tweets. Known for her strong stance against certain administrative policies, Velazquez’s comments highlight her concerns over trade practices, university responsibilities, and the operations of the Social Security Agency under current leadership.
On April 2, 2025, Rep. Velazquez addressed the impacts of a trade war, challenging the notion that opposition comes solely from “globalists.” She asserted that “the complaints won’t be from ‘globalists.’ They’ll be from working families, small businesses, and everyday Americans getting crushed by your half-baked trade war.”
On April 4, 2025, Velazquez took a stand on academic freedom and student rights. She stated that “It should always be expected that universities defend their students, especially when they’re targeted, detained, & silenced for political beliefs.” She expressed gratitude to Tufts University for their efforts, urging for the release of a student named Rumeysa.
Later that day, she criticized efforts to reduce the workforce within the Social Security Agency. Velazquez described the situation as “Trump and Musk are hollowing out the Social Security Agency. Wait times and backlogs are already exploding, and they want to fire 1000s more workers. This is a betrayal of the American people who earned and rely on these benefits.”
