Nydia Velázquez, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 7th district, has recently taken to social media to express her concerns on several pressing issues. In a series of tweets, she highlighted what she perceives as significant threats to due process and economic stability under current administrative policies.

On March 21, 2025, Velázquez tweeted about the deportation and detention of individuals without criminal records. She stated: “People with no criminal record are being deported and locked up in a foreign prison camp. No charges. No trial. Just gone.” She further commented on the implications of such actions by saying it represents the destruction of due process and an assault on constitutional rights.

Later that day, Velázquez criticized certain members of the Trump administration for their disconnect from average Americans’ financial realities. Her tweet read: “Trump admin billionaires like Lutnick are so out of touch they can’t imagine the harm a missed Social Security check would cause most Americans.” She emphasized that while these individuals might be able to dismiss such financial disruptions, most Americans cannot afford this luxury.

In another tweet dated March 24, 2025, Velázquez addressed plans involving Social Security cuts allegedly linked to Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s initiatives involving cryptocurrency DOGE. She asserted: “Call it what it is: Trump and Musk’s DOGE plan is a Social Security cut.” According to her statement, no amount of spin could alter this perception.
