Rep. Nydia Velazquez, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress from New York’s 7th district, recently addressed several significant issues through her social media account. She has been a proactive representative since 1993, succeeding Stephen Solarz, and continues to advocate for her constituents.

On April 14, Rep. Velazquez raised concerns regarding the deportation of Kilmar to El Salvador, stating, “The Trump administration admits it deported Kilmar to El Salvador by mistake, and the Supreme Court has ordered his return to be facilitated. If Trump refuses to comply, it’s a constitutional crisis. If we let him destroy due process, Americans could be next.” The incident highlights potential constitutional implications should there be non-compliance with a Supreme Court order.

On the following day, April 15, Velazquez reported on a rally in Bushwick, focusing on the preservation of Social Security. She noted, “Over 83K people in NY-07 rely on Social Security—retirees, disabled workers, spouses, & kids. Today, we rallied in Bushwick for Social Security Day of Action to tell Trump & Musk: hands off Social Security. Thank you to the advocates and neighbors who showed up and spoke out.” Velázquez emphasized her district’s reliance on Social Security and the need to safeguard these benefits.

On April 16, she highlighted the case of Mohsen Mahdawi, bringing attention to his encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Velazquez claimed, “Mohsen Mahdawi showed up for his citizenship interview and was instead abducted by ICE. With each arrest targeting students for speech, Trump is chipping away at the First Amendment protections for every American. Mohsen must be released immediately.” She drew attention to First Amendment concerns, stressing the potential risks to American citizens’ rights.

Nydia Velázquez, 70, was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico in 1953. She currently lives in Brooklyn.
