The New York Rangers are set to play the Carolina Hurricanes in their third meeting of the regular season. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM, and will be broadcast on MSG and ESPN 1050 AM radio.

Recently, the Rangers have collected points in 11 of their last 17 games with a record of 9-6-2, and they have secured five wins in their last eight road games. They currently lead the NHL in road wins with 14 and are third in total road points at 29. Their ten regulation wins on the road tie them for third among all NHL teams.

On faceoffs, the Rangers’ win percentage is notable—56.1% on the road and an overall mark of 54.3%, both ranking third league-wide. Defensively, New York has allowed only 2.27 goals per game on the road, which is the lowest average in the NHL, and their overall rate of 2.68 goals against per game ranks tied for seventh fewest.

Special teams performance has also been strong; opponents have failed to score a power play goal against the Rangers in 11 of their last 15 games, during which time New York’s penalty kill operates at an 85% success rate, ranking fifth. The team has allowed just 31 second-period goals this season—tied for third fewest in the league.

The Blueshirts’ plus-18 goal differential on the road stands as fourth best in the NHL, while their tally of 68 road goals is also tied for fourth most. Goaltenders from New York have combined for a .905 save percentage (sixth highest) and a goals against average of 2.64 (seventh lowest). At even strength (5-on-5), they have conceded only 62 goals, tying them for fifth fewest.

New York has held leads as visitors for nearly eight hours total (472:50), ranking third among NHL teams. When scoring first, they are particularly successful with a record of 15-2-0—their fifteen wins after netting the opening goal tie them for sixth most such victories this season.

In overtime and shootout situations, seven combined wins put them tied for fourth most league-wide. Physicality is another team hallmark; leading all clubs with 1,033 hits this year and placing seventh with 598 blocked shots—they’ve registered at least thirty hits in fourteen games so far.

Several connections exist between these two teams: Vincent Trocheck spent three seasons with Carolina before joining New York; Adam Fox was acquired by New York from Carolina; K’Andre Miller now plays defense for Carolina but was drafted by New York; Hurricanes goalie Brandon Bussi hails from Sound Beach, New York.

On the road this season, New York holds a record of 14-7-1 with a goal differential of +18 (68 scored to 50 allowed). They accumulated nineteen points over their first eleven away contests—a franchise record—and since the start of the 2021-22 campaign lead all NHL teams with both total road points (235) and are tied atop road wins (108).

Individually, Artemi Panarin leads his team across several categories: goals (14), assists (24), points (38), and shots (121). He reached his career milestone of nine hundred points earlier this month and continues to climb various franchise leaderboards—recently becoming one of only six undrafted players since 1963-64 to reach that mark within eight hundred games or fewer.

Mika Zibanejad leads New York in power play goals with seven and has achieved several personal milestones recently—including notching his fiftieth career game-tying goal as a Ranger—and remains among top contributors offensively since joining the club.

Vincent Trocheck continues to contribute regularly since returning from injury—he ranks fourth league-wide among high-volume faceoff participants since last season—and Igor Shesterkin has provided stability in net: he ranks highly among goaltenders in save percentage (.916), shutouts (20), total wins (152), and low goals-against average over recent years.

Will Cuylle leads New York in hits this season—a key physical presence whose contributions often correlate directly with team success when he scores—and recently passed Ryan Callahan’s single-season hit record dating back to when such stats began being tracked by the league.

The Rangers’ next home contest will be against Utah Mammoth on Monday, January 5 at Madison Square Garden.
