The New York Rangers secured a comeback victory against the Philadelphia Flyers, marking their second third-period, multi-goal comeback win of the season. This achievement makes them the fifth team in the league this year to record multiple such comebacks. Historically, the Rangers have surpassed this number only three times: during the 2014-15, 2006-07, and 1941-42 seasons.
Over their last 14 games, the Rangers have collected points in 10 contests with an 8-4-2 record. At Madison Square Garden specifically, they have earned points in five of their last seven home games.
The team also notched its seventh win in games decided by overtime or shootout, which ties them for fourth most in the NHL for these scenarios.
Scoring first continues to be a strong indicator of success for New York; after tonight’s game, their record when scoring first stands at 14 wins and two losses. This total is tied for sixth most wins under those circumstances across the league.
Several players are maintaining point streaks over consecutive games: Will Cuylle (one goal and one assist), J.T. Miller (two goals and one assist), Gabe Perreault (one goal and one assist), and Vincent Trocheck (two assists).
Artemi Panarin recorded his second multi-goal game of this season and his 30th as a Ranger overall. He reached this milestone in just 466 games—making him the ninth fastest player to do so in franchise history.
Mika Zibanejad scored a power play goal that tied the game during the third period. It was his seventh power play goal of this season and his 115th since joining New York. He is now one power play goal away from matching the franchise’s all-time record of 116. Zibanejad also became just the fifth player in team history to score at least 50 game-tying goals.
The Rangers’ next home game will be against Utah Mammoth on Monday, January 5 at Madison Square Garden.
