Physical therapist from HSS discusses causes and prevention of back pain

Nicholas Hershfield, PT, DPT, OCS, a physical therapist at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), discussed the frequent causes of back pain and identified important muscle groups to strengthen. He also described exercises that may help reduce and prevent back pain and related injuries.

According to Hershfield, the origins of back pain are varied. “Back pain is so multi-factorial,” says Hershfield. “Anything from diet to stress levels to activity or inactivity can really affect low back pain.”
