Eight Columbia football players have been named to Phil Steele’s postseason All-Ivy League teams, with senior defensive end Justin Townsend earning first-team honors. The announcement highlights the performance of several team members during the season.
Townsend led the Ivy League with 14 tackles for loss and started all 10 games. He recorded 8.5 sacks, ranking second in the conference and fourth on Columbia’s single-season list. In the final game against Cornell, Townsend became Columbia’s career sack leader after posting 2.5 sacks.
Senior offensive lineman Noah Jordan and sophomore punter Tommy Sleeman were selected for the second team. Jordan played every game at right tackle, helping Columbia surpass 150 rushing yards in three games, including a season-high of 253 yards in a win over Cornell on November 22. Sleeman averaged 42.7 yards per punt, placing him second in the Ivy League and third on Columbia’s single-season list.
Third-team selections included senior offensive lineman Mark Chapman, junior wide receiver Titus Evans, and senior linebacker Jack Smiechowski. Chapman started all games at center and was a consistent presence on the line throughout his three-year tenure. Evans led the team with 46 receptions for 584 yards and six touchdowns. Smiechowski topped the team with 78 tackles and added three interceptions, one sack, and four tackles for loss.
Sophomore kick returner Cobe Crews and defensive lineman Keller Patterson received fourth-team recognition. Crews averaged 18.8 yards per kickoff return, ranking fourth in the Ivy League with a long return of 41 yards. Patterson started every game and finished with 26 tackles.
