Columbia women’s basketball player Perri Page has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). The announcement was made Tuesday and recognizes performances from games played between December 8 and 14.
The MBWA award covers players from 21 Division I schools in the New York City metropolitan area, including Columbia, Army West Point, Fairfield, FDU, Fordham, Hofstra, Iona, LIU, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, NJIT, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, St. John’s, Saint Peter’s, Seton Hall, Stony Brook and Wagner.
This is the first time Page has received this weekly honor in her career.
Page is a senior guard from Pittsburgh. In Columbia’s only game that week—a close 54-53 win at Seton Hall—she led her team with a double-double: 15 points and 10 rebounds. She also contributed four steals and two assists while shooting 7-for-14 from the field.
Columbia overcame an early deficit after trailing by as many as 11 points. Page scored nine points in the first quarter to help fuel a 10-0 run that closed the gap to one point by the end of the period. She later hit the game-winning shot with just 0.7 seconds remaining.
Currently this season Page ranks sixth in scoring (13.5 points per game), seventh in rebounding (6.7 per game), first in field goal percentage (.545), and second in steals (2.5 per game) among Ivy League players. Nationally in NCAA Division I women’s basketball she is one of only three players averaging at least 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting at least 50 percent from the field; the others are All-Americans Sarah Strong of UConn and Madison Booker of Texas.
Columbia holds a record of seven wins and four losses this season and will play its next game at home against UTSA on Saturday at Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium.
“Page recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, along with four steals and two assists,” according to the association’s release.
“Then, late in the game, she canned the game-winning basket with just 0.7 seconds left to lift the Lions to a 54-53 victory,” said Columbia Athletics.
