St. John’s University senior guard Oziyah Sellers has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday.
Sellers played a key role in St. John’s recent 91-64 win over Iona at Madison Square Garden, leading six teammates who scored in double figures with a team-high 19 points. He made four out of seven attempts from three-point range and shot 53.6 percent overall from the field, also collecting five rebounds during the game.
Sixteen of Sellers’ 19 points came in the second half, contributing to St. John’s 55-point surge after halftime. During those final 20 minutes, he hit four of five shots from beyond the arc and converted six of eight field goal attempts.
A transfer from Stanford, Sellers is one of six St. John’s players averaging double-digit points this season with an average of 11.9 per game, ranking third on the team. He leads his team in three-point shooting percentage at 46.3 percent and averages 2.1 made three-pointers per game, which places him eighth among all players in the BIG EAST Conference.
Sellers is now the third St. John’s player to receive recognition on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season, following Bryce Hopkins (Nov. 24) and Zuby Ejiofor (Dec. 8). Ejiofor was also named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Nov. 10. This is Sellers’ first time receiving a weekly honor from the conference.
St. John’s will begin its BIG EAST schedule on Tuesday when it hosts DePaul at Carnesecca Arena at 7 p.m., with coverage available on Peacock.
