The New York University women’s basketball team maintained its undefeated record with a decisive 118-52 victory over Skidmore College on Monday, January 5, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
With this win, NYU improved to 11-0 for the season and extended its winning streak to 73 games. This achievement ties them with Division II Ashland University for the fourth-longest winning streak in NCAA women’s basketball history across all divisions.
NYU took control early in the game, scoring the first five points and never relinquishing their lead. The Violets led 30-9 after the first quarter and increased their advantage to 56-23 by halftime. Their defense limited Skidmore College to 37 percent shooting in the first half and forced 28 turnovers.
By the end of the third quarter, NYU had widened its lead to 88-38. Six players scored in double figures: Caroline Peper and Zahra Alexander each had 16 points; Yasmene Clark, Olivia Lagao, and Aila Kaibara contributed 12 apiece; Eden Williamson added 10. Megan Ohonde and Caitlin Kenney both finished with nine points.
Yasmene Clark earned her first home start of her career, collecting team-highs of nine rebounds and six steals. Caroline Peper led with seven assists.
The Violets matched a team record by recording 34 steals and forced a total of 44 turnovers during the game.
NYU will begin University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, January 11, facing Brandeis University at 3:00pm in Waltham, Massachusetts.
