New York University lost both games of a doubleheader against the University of Chicago on April 25 in Chicago, Illinois. The defeats continued a four-game series between the two teams, with NYU now trailing in the series.
The outcome matters for both teams as they approach the end of their regular season schedules and look to improve their records within the University Athletic Association.
In game one, NYU tied the score late but ultimately fell 8-4. Niket Barot started on the mound for NYU and limited Chicago’s offense early, holding them to seven hits through five innings. The Violets rallied in the sixth inning when Dominic Holton hit a sacrifice-fly RBI and Aidan Howladar followed with a two-run double to even things up. However, Chicago broke away with four runs in the seventh and another run in the eighth. In their final at-bat, NYU loaded the bases again but only managed one more run before ending their comeback attempt.
Game two saw an offensive surge from both sides after a slow start. After only three combined hits through four innings, Chicago scored first and then added ten runs in a single inning to lead 11-0. NYU responded with several rallies, including Max Oliveira’s RBI double and Harrison Blueweiss’s two-run homer that helped avoid an early finish by run-rule. Seven unearned runs later narrowed the gap to just two runs before Chicago sealed their win with another run.
Among notable performances, CJ Franchini’s hitting streak ended at fifteen games after game one while Barot completed his fourth consecutive outing without issuing a walk.
The Violets will play their last regular season conference game against Chicago on April 26 at J. Kyle Anderson Field.
