The New York University men’s and women’s swimming teams participated in the Army Invite at West Point, New York, over two days on February 6 and 7. The event did not keep team scores.
During Friday’s session, Kenny Meyer achieved his fastest time of the season in the men’s 500 freestyle with a time of 4:40.47, improving by nearly two seconds from his previous best. In the men’s 50 freestyle, Daniel Gustin lowered his top time to 20.68 seconds and finished second, while Hector Mu placed fourth at 21.01 seconds.
Matthew King secured first place in the men’s 400 individual medley with a finish of 4:08.51.
In the women’s events, Grace Baik took fourth place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.04 seconds. On the men’s side for that event, Mu was second with a time of 49.21 seconds.
Sophia Liwanag led all swimmers in the women’s 100 breaststroke at 1:05.96. Cormac Ryan was NYU’s only competitor on the men’s side for this race and finished in 56.55 seconds.
Molly Sleman set a personal record to win the women’s 100 freestyle at 52.60 seconds, while Gustin also recorded a new best and won on the men’s side with a time of 45.52 seconds.
On Saturday, Alice Ciobanu came close to winning her first race but finished second in the women’s 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.43.
Sleman posted another personal best in the women’s 50 freestyle at 24.17 seconds; Gustin took first place again for men at 20.84 seconds.
Meyer achieved another career-best by winning the men’s mile swim with a time of 16:13.98.
NYU’s swimming and diving teams will next compete at the UAA Championships hosted by the University of Chicago from February 11-14.
