School’s out, and summer has arrived in New York City. While the campus is quieter, the city offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the season. Many cultural institutions and parks provide free or discounted events. The NYU News team has compiled a list of NYC summer adventures with details on transit from Washington Square, hours, tickets, and more.

One can swim at Central Park’s Gottesman Pool in the new Davis Center located at the park’s north end. Other pool options include McCarren Park Pool, Astoria Pool, Highbridge Pool, or Hamilton Fish Pool.

For those interested in outdoor movies, Midtown’s Bryant Park hosts free movie nights throughout the summer. Additional venues for outdoor movies are Prospect Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Sunset Park, or Maria Hernandez Park.

Baseball enthusiasts can visit Yankee Stadium beyond Commencement time to catch a game. Other teams like The Mets, Brooklyn Cyclones, and Staten Island FerryHawks also offer games worth attending.

Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City festival presents hundreds of free performances and cultural activities suitable for all ages. Alternatives include BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn and Shakespeare in the Park.

Roosevelt Island offers exploration opportunities such as Four Freedoms State Park and Smallpox Hospital ruins. Access is available via a sky tram from 59th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan every ten minutes.

Buschwick provides an art gallery experience with its street art-covered walls. For art walks elsewhere consider Socrates Sculpture Park or Bowery Mural Wall.
