The New York University men’s soccer team began its 2025 season with a 4-3 defeat to Rowan University on Friday in Newark, New Jersey. Rowan took an early lead with goals from Ryan Cleary and Johnny Troiano within the first seven minutes of play.
NYU responded with two goals to level the score before halftime. Terra Nagai scored at the 14:53 mark off an assist from Audric Ma, followed by Ethan Zarka’s successful free kick at 37:57.
Rowan started the second half strongly, as Troiano added two more goals, both assisted by Davide Caputo in the opening three minutes. NYU managed to reduce the deficit late in the match when Demir Calkap found the net with just three seconds left, assisted by Zarka.
Despite losing, NYU had a higher shot total than Rowan, outshooting them 19-15. The Violets will next face Vassar College on Sunday in Poughkeepsie, New York.
