NYU men’s track and field begins UAA Outdoor Championships in Cleveland

The New York University men’s track and field team began competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships on April 25. The event is taking place at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and will continue through April 26.

The UAA Outdoor Championships are a key event for collegiate athletes in the association, providing an opportunity for teams to compete at a high level across multiple disciplines.

After the first day of action, NYU’s men’s team holds seventh place with three points. Elijah McCauley contributed to the team’s score by finishing sixth in the 10,000-meter final with a time of 31:56.72 during Saturday morning’s events on Sudeck Track under rainy conditions.

Three NYU runners advanced to Sunday finals. Tyler Burch secured a spot in the 100-meter final with an 11.02-second performance in preliminaries. James Thompson (22.39 seconds) and Flynt Whitworth (22.47 seconds) earned places in the 200-meter final after posting the sixth- and seventh-best times respectively; Thompson’s result marked a personal best.

Looking ahead to Sunday, NYU athletes are set to compete in several races including the 4×100-meter relay, 1500 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters, and both the 5000-meter and 4×400-meter relays. Field competitors will participate in javelin throw events followed by triple jump and discus.
