The New York University men’s tennis team lost a narrow 4-3 match to Skidmore College on April 18 in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The outcome was decided by the singles matches after NYU had secured the doubles point. The Violets won two out of three doubles contests, with Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens claiming a 7-6 win at No. 1 and Louis Frowein and Boris Slesarev winning 6-3 at No. 3.

In singles play, NYU managed victories in only two of six matches. Von Hellens earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 with scores of 6-4, 6-3, while Frowein won his match at No. 3 by a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Assistant Coach Ron Moreno said, “The team played with a lot of heart and battled until the very last point. They had the right attitude, but gave up too many key points, which is what made the difference.”

NYU will next compete against Brandeis University on Sunday, April 19 in Waltham, Massachusetts.
