NYU men’s volleyball defeats NJCU in straight sets

New York University’s men’s volleyball team, ranked eighth nationally, secured a straight-set win against New Jersey City University on Thursday in Jersey City, New Jersey.

The Violets won each set with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-14. In the first set, NYU established an early lead at 5-2 and extended it with a 7-1 run after being up 8-6. Although New Jersey City University narrowed the margin to five points during the set, NYU maintained its advantage and closed out the frame.

During the second set, both teams exchanged points early on, with NYU holding a narrow 9-8 lead through the initial rallies. The Gothic Knights kept close at 15-14 before NYU went on a decisive 9-2 run. NJCU managed to defend five consecutive set points before Emerson Evans ended the set with a kill.

In the third set, NYU quickly built an 8-0 lead and never trailed. The Violets led by as many as eleven points before finishing the match with a comfortable win in the final frame.

Emerson Evans led NYU’s offense with 12 kills and recorded a .409 hitting percentage. He also contributed nine digs and three service aces. Devyn Nguyen provided a match-high total of 33 assists.

NYU is scheduled to play its next game at home against Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday, March 3 at the John A. Paulson Center.
