NYU men’s soccer upsets No. 2 Washington University with shutout victory

The New York University men’s soccer team secured a 1-0 victory against the second-ranked Washington University on Saturday, November 1, in St. Louis, Missouri.

The game’s only goal came in the 20th minute when Terra Nagai scored following an assist from Keyon Namdar. Namdar moved past several Washington defenders before passing to Nagai for the finish.

NYU maintained a strong defensive performance in the first half, limiting Washington University to three shots, all of which were on target. NYU’s goalkeeper Gabino Talisayon made three saves to keep a clean sheet.

Early in the second half, Kyle Sakalosky nearly doubled NYU’s lead but was denied by Washington’s goalkeeper Cal L’Hommedieu. In the 73rd minute, Namdar also forced another save from L’Hommedieu.

NYU’s defense continued to limit opportunities for Washington University in the second half, allowing just two more shots that did not reach the goal. Overall, NYU took nine shots during the match, with five on target.

Head Coach Kim Wyant praised her team’s effort: “The players put in a phenomenal performance. They were really competing from the first minute to the last minute of the match,” Wyant said. “I give them total credit for this team victory. They followed the game plan, they stayed together, and the performance was outstanding.”

NYU will play its final UAA match of the season against Brandeis University on Senior Day at Lubetkin Field in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday, November 8 at 10:30 am.
